With more than 30 years of experience across education systems in East Asia and Europe, La brings a broad perspective on teaching and learning, school leadership, teacher education, curriculum and learning design, professional development, accreditation, and whole-school improvement. Their work examines how schools can develop the structures, relationships, cultures, and leadership practices that enable educators and students to thrive and improve together.
La’s research draws on systems thinking, biomimicry, humanising pedagogy, and culturally responsive education to explore schools as complex, interconnected communities. It focuses on how governance and leadership can move beyond compliance and oversight to create conditions for collaboration, professional agency, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility for educational quality.

Their work also considers how schools can use feedback, diversity, interdependence, adaptation, and resilience to strengthen decision-making and organisational learning. La is particularly interested in how boards and leaders can ensure that the voices and experiences of students, educators, families, and communities inform the decisions that shape teaching, learning, curriculum, and school culture.
A central theme of La’s work is leadership as creating conditions in which people can think, learn, and act together. This includes developing both individual agency and co-agency, strengthening professional collaboration, and ensuring that improvement efforts remain grounded in the lived experience of students and educators.
La holds MAs in Educational Leadership and Management and Theatre Education and is a frequent international presenter, facilitator, and contributor to conversations about educational leadership, school improvement, teacher development, and the future of schooling. La is a lecturer in international teacher education at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands.
